Document requirements


1. Form, duly completed in Slovak or English (it is permissible to complete the application form in Latin characters), signed personally by the applicant. For children who do not have their own passport, but are included in the mother/father's passport, an application form with a photograph is also required. For minors, the application is signed by one of the parents or guardians.

2. Two color photographs 3.5 x 4.5 cm good quality on a white background, taken within the last 6 months.

3. International passport, valid for at least three months after the last intended date of departure from the Schengen area, containing at least two blank pages and not older than ten years and a copy of the first page with information about the applicant.

4. Second valid international passport (if available): original + copy of the first page with photo.

5. Old/cancelled foreign passports (if any): copy of the page with the photo + copies of Schengen visas for the last 3 years.

6. Medical insurance, valid for the entire period of the planned stay in all Schengen countries and covering all costs that may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care, emergency hospitalisation or death during the stay. The minimum insurance coverage must be 30,000 euros.

Photo specifications

Applicants need to submit their Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:

The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).

  • Use plain light-colored background.
  • The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
  • Not tilted picture (portrait style) showing both edges of face clearly.
  • Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
  • Photo in sharp focus and clear.

Photo Size

The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:

  • The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
  • On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3.5 x 4.5 (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
  • Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes. Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.

Processing Time

From the date of receipt of application at the Embassy of Slovakia, it takes 15 to 45 working days to process the visa application. The duration of days when the application is in transit between the Visa Application Centre and the Embassy are not counted.
